A Day at the Islands

How
would like to spend a day visiting the Islands of Port Cros and the
Porquerolles?
They are approx. 30 miles West of St.Tropez and 6 miles offshore.
We will travel in our new 60 mph, 9.5 metre, stepped hull, deep V sports boat,
designed by Michael Peters an American offshore race boat designer, with twin
250hp Suzuki 6 cylinder outboards providing the power.
The itinerary will include a fabulous 1 hour boat ride to the islands.
We pass the Ile du Levant and head for the nature reserve of the Ile de Port
Cros, where we
will then anchor in the cove of Port Man. Here you can dive off the boat and
snorkel in crystal clear waters
among fish, tame enough to eat out of your hand
or
you can sunbath on deck with cold beer or rose from the cool box, listening to music
from the onboard sound system. After
a couple
of hours we will continue to Port Cros where we can have lunch in the
beautiful little harbour not too dissimilar to Tortuga in the Caribbean. After
lunch we carry on to the Ile de Porquerolles and the plage de Notre Dame. Here
you will find beautiful sandy beaches and azure blue sea where a swim
to the
shore is irresistible. Back onboard we proceed to visit the main harbour of the Porquerolle
to see a little more of island life and then on to the plage d'Argent another silver sanded beach.
More diving, snorkelling, swimming, sunbathing, wine
and music in a beautiful place, under
a hot sun, that's what life is all about.
These Islands are known as the Jewels of the Mediterranean and are about the
most exquisite place to visit. It is now time to head for the rugged south side
of the island and complete the circumnavigation. There are no beaches to speak
of but it is wildly beautiful and it may present a further opportunity to
snorkel. Having rounded Porquerolle we have two choices, we can either continue
to the south side of Port Cros and head back offshore or steer to the mainland
to see the French Presidents holiday retreat and return along the coast. Either
way it is still another hour spent in an awesome power boat on the journey back
to the Gulf of St. Tropez.
We
have wanted to include this trip for years but have never had a boat capable
enough until now. The sailing boat would take all day to get there so was never
an option. The speed of this boat makes the trip viable, however, with the way
fuel prices are going and the cost of running the boat it is a possibility that
we may have to impose a fuel surcharge for this activity of around £10 per
person. This would not apply to optional shorter voyages.
