Weather
The weather here in the South of France is hotter
than most people realise. If you look at St.Tropez geographically it is out
towards the tip of a southerly projection of the Mediterranean coast of France.
It has a true Mediterranean climate and has statistically 3000 hours of sunshine
a year. The air temperatures normally range between the late 20's to early 30's
but can reach the 40's. The sea temperatures range between the
early and late 20's. During the latter part of June 2002, we had
air temps of 38° and sea temps of 24°....bliss.
The UK can have reasonable summers but, here in St. Tropez, we sometimes don't see
rain from Early May 'til late September.
The sea temperature in the UK never gets above 17° or 18°. Early season in the UK can be particularly cold and is one of the reasons why we now operate in the South of France. The sea temps can vary in the Med depending on how much wind stirs up the deeper, cooler waters. It ranges in the summer between 22 and 26 degrees so mostly we do not need wetsuits, only occasionally we use shorties.
During the summer, in the South of France, it is not unreasonable to
expect hot , sunny days everyday.
But of course, as we all know, it can rain any time any where. Low season, April
and October, can be a bit unpredictable.
